Copperwood Roost

The Copperwood clan builds their cities hundreds of feet above the ancient Feng Forest to keep themselves safe from the creatures below. Each roost is home to any where from a couple hundred to a couple thousand elves. The wood elves make their cities by manipulating the growth of the Feng trees to form platforms in the upper branches of the tree. Then each family makes their homes from the parasitic Fenghorn vine which over hundreds of years has been bred to grow in a dome shape. The most noteable feature of the Copperwood Roost is the nesting area. The Copperwood clan are famous for their giant owl riders. To the Copperwood the giant owls they are both sacred protectors and close friends. The eldest child of each Copperwood family upon reaching the age of 100 years climbs up into the nests and chooses from one of the newly hatched eggs his life partner. The elf then trains and raises the owl himself. Once the owl is full grown the elf can choose to take the rider’s test. The test is different for each elf but it is to prove the strength of the bond between rider and owl upon completion of the test the rider will then be assigned a job by the council of elders.

It is quite rare that an elf will leave his roost unless he is a rider even then they will only travel from roost to roost.
